Tigers
TigersLongleat Safari Park was delighted to announce that three Amur (Siberian) tigers were released into the tiger enclosure back in 2007.

The three young female tigers, Shouri, Soundari and Svetli came from Mulhouse Zoo in eastern France where they were born. The tigers are part of a European breeding programme and it is hoped that they will form a breeding group in a new collection - which is where Longleat Safari Park stepped in.

Due to the very sad demise of two of our tigers over the last few years through old age we decided it was time to introduce new tigers to Longleat.

The enclosure is much larger than the one they had been used to and is jam-packed with new sights and smells. They have never seen cars or buses before let alone pheasants and squirrels so they have a whale of a time discovering what life at Longleat is all about!

Did You Know?

  • The roar of a tiger can carry for more than 2km.
  • Unlike most big cats, tigers enjoy water and are strong swimmers.
  • Tigers also communicate by using their ears. They place them in different positions particularly when cubs are following their mother. The white spots on the backs of their ears are thought to make the signals clearer.
  • Tigers purr like domestic cats.
